A new charitable initiative, “Beyond the Fairways”, has been officially established by Quinton Sherlock Jr., Daniel Augustus, Ebonie Cox and Arriek Douglas, with a clear and compelling mission: to make golf more accessible, inclusive and impactful for a broader and more diverse cross-section of Bermudians.
What sets Beyond the Fairways apart is the shared journey of its founders. Each has been involved in the game from a young age, progressing through Bermuda’s junior golf system and into higher levels of competition and professional engagement. Through those experiences, they have developed not only a deep understanding of the game, but also a clear awareness of the structural and financial barriers that can limit entry, progression, and exposure.
Collectively, the founders bring a wealth of experience across competitive play, coaching and player development. Their backgrounds position them to deliver high-quality instruction, mentorship and guidance, while also advocating for greater access to the opportunities that golf can provide - including education, travel and career pathways.
“We’ve lived the journey,” the founders shared in a joint statement. “We understand both the opportunities the game can create and the barriers that can stand in the way. Beyond the Fairways is about widening that pathway - ensuring more young Bermudians can access the game, stay in the game and benefit from everything it has to offer.”
The charity will focus on several key areas of supporting, including:
● Youth Development Programs that introduce golf at the grassroots level, with structured coaching, mentorship and life-skills integration
● Access and Inclusion Initiatives that reduce financial and structural barriers to participation
● Education and Scholarship Pathways that support young Bermudians in pursuing academic and athletic opportunities locally and abroad
● Community Engagement through partnering with schools, community organizations and stakeholders to broaden participation in the sport
Beyond the Fairways aims to complement and strengthen Bermuda’s golf ecosystem by building sustainable pathways into the game - from first exposure to long-term development - while ensuring that access is not determined by circumstance, but by opportunity.
At a time when the conversation around public golf is increasingly focused on cost and sustainability, Beyond the Fairways offers a parallel solution: grow the game by growing participation, deepening engagement and investing in the next generation.
The organization will begin rolling out its initial programs in the coming months and is actively seeking partnerships with corporate sponsors, donors and community stakeholders who share its vision of using golf as a vehicle for opportunity and transformation.
