LSU Associate Head Coach David Patrick watched on as the Tigers staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 106–99 double-overtime victory against Ole Miss at the Sandy and John Black Pavilion. The win marks LSU’s third overtime triumph of the season, maintaining an unblemished record in extra periods on the road following similar successes at Boston College and South Carolina.
The Tigers appeared to be heading for defeat when they trailed 74–66 with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation. However, a relentless rally culminated in Mike Nwoko tying the game at 80–80 with a clutch floater in the lane. Although a Corey Chest alley-oop briefly restored the Rebels' lead, Rashad King held his nerve to sink two free throws with 15 seconds left, forcing the first extra session after a vital defensive block by Robert Miller.
The tension only intensified in the first overtime, where LSU again had to fight from behind. Trailing by two in the final minute, Pablo Tamba drove the paint to level the scores at 90–90. The Tigers' defense then stood firm as Ole Miss missed two potential game-winning jumpers in the dying seconds, sending the contest into a second overtime period.
LSU finally took control in the second extra session, sparked by a powerful Miller dunk that tied the game for the 16th and final time. Senior guard Max Mackinnon, who finished with a season-high 34 points, then took over. Mackinnon converted an off-balance shot while being fouled to give the Tigers a permanent 95–92 lead.
Despite Ole Miss twice closing the gap to a single point, Mackinnon’s clinical finishing and a disciplined 7-of-8 performance from the free-throw line in the closing minutes ensured the result. LSU’s efficiency proved the difference in the ten extra minutes, where they shot 8-of-14 from the field compared to just 4-of-15 for the hosts.
The victory provides a significant boost for Coach Matt McMahon’s squad as they return home to Baton Rouge this weekend to face Oklahoma.
