Tyler Hurdle and his City of Edinburgh teammates maintained their push at the top of the table with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over South Ayrshire in the Scottish Volleyball Men's Premier Division. The win ensures the capital side keeps pace with leaders City of Glasgow Ragazzi as the title race intensifies.
The match began in clinical fashion for the division heavyweights. Hurdle, the Bermudian standout who joined the squad for the 2025/26 campaign, was instrumental as City of Edinburgh claimed the opening set with disciplined net play and powerful combinations.
However, the momentum shifted in the second set as South Ayrshire found their rhythm. The Ayrshire outfit leveled the match with a resilient performance, testing the Edinburgh defense to push the contest into a pivotal third frame.
Unfazed by the setback, City of Edinburgh demonstrated why they remain one of the league's most formidable units. They reclaimed the lead in the third set before closing out the match in the fourth, securing the vital three points.
Hurdle, an outside hitter who previously competed for Queens University of Charlotte, has become a key figure in the Edinburgh rotation since moving to Scotland to pursue a Master's degree at the University of Edinburgh. His transition to the Scottish game has been seamless, as he balances his playing duties with a role as Competitions & Events Officer at Scottish Volleyball.
Following the win, City of Edinburgh remained firmly in second place with 26 points from 11 matches, trailing only the undefeated City of Glasgow Ragazzi. They now turn their attention to a crucial run of fixtures as they look to dethrone the leaders in the final stretch of the season.
