Spine & Sport 4 BDA Spirits 2
In the latest installment of the Bermuda Ball Hockey league, the focus turned to a pivotal bottom-of-the-table clash at the PCC Hockey Rink. In what was the sole fixture of the evening, seventh-place Spine & Sport delivered a clinical performance to overcome sixth-place BDA Spirits with a 4–2 victory.
The match began with Spine & Sport asserting their authority early on. Johnny Talbot proved to be the standout figure in the opening exchanges, finding the back of the net to give his side a narrow lead heading into the first interval. It was a period defined by tight checking and limited clear-cut opportunities as both sides looked to establish their rhythm after the recent run of weather-related disruptions in the league schedule.
The second period saw Spine & Sport pull away in decisive fashion. Talbot continued his fine individual form by grabbing his second of the night, before teammates Ryan Bates and Cole Haggett added further strikes to silence the Spirits' bench. The three-goal surge in the middle frame left BDA Spirits with a mountain to climb, as they struggled to breach a resolute Spine & Sport defensive unit that appeared determined to snap their recent losing streak.
However, BDA Spirits refused to concede without a fight and mounted a spirited comeback in the final period. Ryan Marshall emerged as the primary threat for the chasing side, striking twice in quick succession to reduce the deficit and inject some late tension into the proceedings. Despite the surge in pressure, Spine & Sport held firm during the closing minutes to secure the points and move within striking distance of their rivals in the standings.
The result marks a significant turnaround for Spine & Sport, who had suffered high-scoring losses in their previous outings. While BDA Spirits will be disappointed to leave the rink empty-handed, the resilience shown in the final period provides a foundation to build on as the league enters the crucial final stages of the winter season.
