The No. 2 Wisconsin men's hockey team, featuring Blake Montgomery, secured a remarkable 7-4 comeback victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Compton Family Ice Arena, fuelled by two-goal, three-point nights from both Quinn Finley and Joe Palodichuk.
Notre Dame opened the scoring early in the first period and added a second goal in the final minute of the frame, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Wisconsin responded swiftly in the second period. Quinn Finley and Christian Fitzgerald each scored a breakaway goal in the opening four minutes of the middle frame to tie the game at 2-2.
The Fighting Irish momentarily retook the lead a minute later with a power-play goal, making it 3-2. However, Joe Palodichuk put the Badgers ahead with two quick tallies in the remaining nine minutes of the second period, giving Wisconsin a 4-3 lead.
The drama continued into the third period as Notre Dame tied the game at four less than 90 seconds in. Wisconsin immediately responded, with Ryan Botterill scoring just over a minute later to restore the lead.
In the final 2:30 of the game, Wisconsin sealed the victory as Finley and Simon Tassy both hit the empty net, securing the 7-4 comeback win.
The victory marks Wisconsin's fourth conference win in a row, cementing their position in second place in the Big Ten with 19 points.
