The Bermuda PickleBall National Championships kicked off at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium with a full schedule of matches, highlighted by intense doubles action and a gripping tie-breaker in the top division.
The most dramatic result of the opening day came in the Men's Doubles 4.5+ Open Division, which required a third-set decider. The duo of Jasper Thomas and Jamie Stowe Jr ultimately prevailed in a hard-fought contest against Mical Russell and Gavin Manders. After dropping the first set in a narrow tie-break, Thomas and Stowe Jr rebounded strongly, winning 10-11, 11-9, 11-6.
In the Men's Doubles 3.0 Open Division, the team of Adam Barboza and Calum Bannerman made a dominant start to their campaign. They secured a comfortable straight-set victory over Owen Stewart and Xavier James, winning 11-3.
Meanwhile, the Men's Doubles 4.0 Open Division saw George Thomas and Vincent Chaves defeat Tristan Pettit and Jaden Jones with a final score of 11-8, successfully navigating a competitive mid-level match.
The early action sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting week of national championship pickleball.
