Somersfield Academy have been crowned the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Middle School Open Netball Champions after defeating Warwick Academy 12-7 in the final at Bernard Park.
The victory concluded a successful tournament run for Somersfield, whose sharp shooting proved the difference in the championship match.
Somersfield's dominant scorer in the final was Anya-Aeleisha Pearman, who led all scorers with an impressive eight goals. Cali Atcheson provided solid support, adding four goals to the winning total.
Warwick Academy were led in scoring by Victoria Smatt with four goals, while Sayla Williams chipped in with three goals in their runner-up effort.
Somersfield’s path to the title included a convincing 6-3 victory over BHS in the Semi-Final. In that match, Pearman and Atcheson continued their strong partnership, each scoring three goals. BHS’s efforts were led by D’Nae Brandy with two goals and Layla Lightbourn with one.
The other Semi-Final proved to be a nail-biting affair that went right down to the wire. Warwick Academy secured their spot in the final by edging past Saltus Grammar School 5-4 in sudden death.
In the tense semi-final, both Williams and Smatt scored two goals each for Warwick, with Alexa Correia adding the crucial fifth goal. Saltus’s scoring was split evenly between Taylor Lyme and Sydney Pethick, who both scored twice.
