Walking Footballers Head for Three-Match Tour

IslandStats.com
A group of Bermudian Walking Football enthusiasts are set to embark on an exciting three-match tour to the UK, where they will face the walking football teams representing some of England's most famous Premier League clubs—Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester City.

The tour offers a unique opportunity for the Bermudian contingent to test their skills against established sides and enjoy the camaraderie the fast-growing sport provides.

The team travelling from Bermuda is comprised of twelve committed players, showcasing a blend of experienced local footballers returning to the pitch and dedicated enthusiasts. The squad includes: John Miranda, Gordon Stewart, Elijah Lowe, George Butterfield, Chris Gibbons, Curly Joe Wilson, Michael Bean, Troy Lowe, David Chew, Andrew Griffith, Khomeni Talbot, and Johnny Robinson.

The sport they play, Walking Football, is a unique small-sided game created by John Croot in 2011. It has rapidly grown into a global phenomenon, primarily attracting players over the age of 50.

As the name suggests, the core rule is simple: no running is allowed. This modification significantly reduces the risk of injury and impact, allowing players to rediscover the game they love without the physical toll of traditional football.

The Bermuda players will rely on their tactical intelligence and technical skill—qualities that "come flooding back" when playing the familiar game in a new way.

The schedule pits the visitors against three powerhouse club foundations in the city of Liverpool, providing a memorable challenge:

A match against the Liverpool walking football team.
A fixture against the community team representing Everton.
A meeting with the side representing Manchester City.

The tour is expected to be a major highlight for the group, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and showing that the passion for the beautiful game never fades.
