Bermuda Teams Fall in World Cup Pickleball Knockouts

IslandStats.com
The Pickleball Association of Bermuda is celebrating the phenomenal determination and world-class achievement of both the Open and Senior National Teams, who battled fiercely in the knockout phase of the 2025 Pickleball World Cup.

Competing against nearly 70 countries, Bermuda once again demonstrated its potential on the international stage.

As the tournament’s overall #1 seed following a perfect group stage, Bermuda’s Open Team entered the Round of 32 full of confidence but faced a tenacious South Africa squad.

Bermuda looked poised for victory after securing impressive wins in both the Women’s Doubles (21-16) and Men’s Doubles (21-12). However, South Africa rallied, claiming both Mixed Doubles matches and the Women’s and Men’s Singles to pull ahead 3-2, forcing a decisive fifth match. Though Bermuda forced a tie-breaking "Final Battle," South Africa ultimately prevailed 21-19 in a narrow result that ended Bermuda’s deep run. The 4 - 3 loss to the 32nd seed was a heartbreaker, but the team's discipline and sportsmanship throughout the event were lauded globally.

The Senior Team, seeded #12, showcased their grit by fighting through a competitive Play-In round. They handily defeated Chile 3-1, securing commanding victories in Men’s Doubles (21-8) and both Mixed Doubles matches (21-9, 21-9) after dropping the Women’s Doubles opener.

Advancing into the Round of 16, Bermuda battled Israel. The Seniors managed to notch a strong win in Women’s Doubles (21-19) before falling in the subsequent matches, concluding a remarkable campaign among the world’s top senior nations.

National Coach Sasha Fisher remarked, "As a coach, I am incredibly proud to see our athletes reach the knockout stage in a global event with almost 70 countries—a true testament to their hard work and resilience."
