The Bermuda Ball Hockey Winter League served up a sensational double-header at the PCC Hockey Rink last night, with the two matches producing an incredible total of 28 goals and culminating in a dramatic shootout finish.
Hamilton Princess 6 BDA Spirits 3
The evening began with Hamilton Princess securing a hard-fought 6-3 victory over BDA Spirits.
Hamilton Princess took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission thanks to two goals from Riley Latour, with Patrick Bousfield replying for the Spirits. The second period saw the two sides trade goals, with Mathew Benson netting for the Princess and Jeff Loper scoring for the Spirits, leaving the score at 3-2.
The BDA Spirits levelled the contest early in the third period with a strike from Mathieu Ingelman. However, the Hamilton Princess rallied late, unleashing three unanswered goals to secure the win. Jean-Michael Tremblay put them back in front, Benson added his second, and Latour completed his hat-trick to make the final score 6-3.
Positive Image Dental 10 Spine & Sport 9
The nightcap delivered the biggest drama, requiring a shootout to separate Positive Image Dental and Spine & Sport after they played out a stunning 9-9 tie.
The first period was a frantic seven-goal affair. Spine & Sport netted four times through a Christopher Merritt brace and single strikes from Mathieu Desjardins and Kris Abramowski. Matching their opponents blow-for-blow was Ross Rufiange, who scored a hat-trick for Positive Image Dental to keep them close.
The scoring frenzy continued into the second period with a massive eleven goals. Merritt added two more for Spine & Sport to bring his personal tally to four, with Desjardins, Rob Osborne, and Adrien Faucher also finding the net.
However, Positive Image Dental was not done. Rufiange added a further three goals to take his astounding total for the night to six, while Chris Allington, Louis Sujir, and Kyle Harvey all scored one apiece to tie the game at 9-9 heading into the final period.
Neither goalkeeper conceded a goal in the tense third period, sending the match to a shootout. It was Louis Sujir who stepped up to score the winner, edging Positive Image Dental to a thrilling 10-9 victory.
