Twelve years ago, on October 9th, 2013, Bermuda received a visit from the most coveted prize in global sport: the authentic FIFA World Cup Trophy.
The one-of-a-kind, solid-gold masterpiece arrived on the island as part of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, an extensive nine-month global journey ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The visit marked the first time the prestigious trophy had ever come to Bermuda.
The historic piece of silverware, which symbolizes the pinnacle of footballing achievement, arrived on a private chartered jet from the Bahamas. A special event was held at Camden House in the Botanical Gardens, where it was unveiled by dignitaries, including the Governor and Premier.
The event gave hundreds of local football fans, including scores of youth players, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see and be photographed with the trophy before it continued its tour through the Caribbean and Central America.
For Bermudian football enthusiasts, the day remains a powerful reminder of the island’s place in the global game.
