Bermuda’s beach volleyball pairing of Sean Tucker and Benjamin Barnett experienced a challenging but ultimately productive start to the 9th stage of the North America, Central America, and the Caribbean (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Tour, splitting their matches in Pool B.
The day began on a high note for the Bermudian duo, who were selected to represent the island following a silver medal win at the ECVA Men's Championships earlier this year.
In their opening match against Rafael Alberto Vargas and Fernando Javier Ortiz of El Salvador, Tucker and Barnett dominated after a tight start, securing the victory in straight sets: 21-18, 21-12. The win took 36 minutes and was an important psychological boost for their campaign against top regional opponents.
However, their second challenge proved far sterner. Returning to the sand, Tucker and Barnett faced the Mexican pairing of Ines Antonio Vargas Lares and Carlos Andres Ayala Herrera. The match was a rapid, high-intensity affair, with the Mexicans demonstrating their class and clinical efficiency.
Tucker and Barnett ultimately went down in straight sets, 21-12, 21-11, in a battle that lasted just 25 minutes.
The split result leaves the Bermudians in a competitive position in Pool B as they look ahead to their final pool match, where they will need another strong performance to secure advancement in the knockout stages.
