Bermuda's participation in the 17th World Wushu Championships in Brasília, Brazil, has come to an end, with Kaelin Cox completing his final routine in the Taolu discipline. Cox finished in 31st place overall in his event, and despite the result, his coach, Garon Wilkinson, found some positives in his performance.
Wilkinson provided an honest assessment, highlighting that Cox’s performance score was 2.44, but without deductions, it would have been a much higher 9.44. "Cox was strong," Wilkinson said. "We know the mistakes he made, and we also know his performance score was 2.44, but without deductions he would have got 9.44. So we need to work on perfecting the execution of the movements."
The coach's analysis underscores the razor-thin margins and high standards of competition at the world championships. The experience in Brazil will provide Cox with a clear roadmap for his training, as he aims to perfect the technical aspects of his routine and eliminate the deductions that kept him from a top-tier score. The championships, which concluded with a medal ceremony, provided invaluable experience for the young Bermudian.
