The Ascot National Swimming Championships have begun in spectacular fashion at the National Sports Center Pool, with Olympian Emma Harvey setting the pool alight by breaking two national records on the very first day of competition.
Harvey, a seasoned international swimmer, demonstrated her exceptional talent in the butterfly events, rewriting the national record books in both the 50m and 100m distances.
The morning session saw Harvey take to the blocks for the Women’s Open 50 Butterfly. She powered through the water to stop the clock in an impressive 26.70 seconds. This performance surpassed her own previous national record of 26.75 seconds, which she had set earlier this month at the TYR Pro Series meet.
Not content with one record, Harvey returned to the pool later in the day for the Women’s Open 100 Butterfly. Once again, she delivered a blistering swim, breaking her own national record in a time of 59.85 seconds. This swim eclipsed her previous best of 59.88 seconds, also achieved earlier this month at the TYR Pro Series.
Harvey’s remarkable achievements on Day One of the Ascot National Swimming Championships highlight her continued dominance in the butterfly events and her consistent improvement at the highest level. Breaking two national records on home soil will undoubtedly provide a significant boost as the championships continue. Swimming fans will be eagerly anticipating her performances in the remaining events.
