Cyclist Conor White has begun his participation in the 2025 Tour de la Manche, a challenging five-day stage race held in the picturesque Normandy region of northern France. The race, known for its stunning coastline and historical significance, covers a total distance of 1131.5 kilometres across seven stages, and this year offers riders the opportunity to see the D-Day landing beaches as part of the route's commemoration of the 75th anniversary.
Stage 1 of the Tour de la Manche took the peloton from Sartilly-Baie-Bocage to Isigny-le-Buat, a distance of 165.3 kilometres. White, representing the Muc-Off-SRCT-Storck team, completed the opening stage in 53rd position with a time of 3 hours, 48 minutes, and 22 seconds.
The stage victory went to James Hartley, who crossed the line in a time of 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 45 seconds. White finished the opening day 37 seconds behind the stage winner.
The Tour de la Manche, with its undulating terrain and significant distances, will provide a stern test for White over the next four days. His performance on Stage 1 provides a starting point as he navigates the remaining stages and aims to improve his overall general classification in this prestigious French stage race. The historical backdrop of the Normandy region adds an extra layer of significance to this year's event.
