Cyclist Nicholas Narraway faced a demanding challenge in the Vigo-Copa de España Road Race in Spain. The arduous 180-kilometre event, featuring a significant 4,000 metres of accumulated elevation gain, tested the endurance of the entire peloton.
The race saw a high-quality breakaway group form with over 90 kilometres still remaining, indicating the intensity and tactical nature of the competition.
Narraway, representing the Tenerife-BikePoint-LaSedeBycicles team, demonstrated his resilience on the punishing course. He finished the race in a respectable 41st place, clocking a time of 5 hours, 2 minutes, and 53 seconds. The victory went to Ilya Savekin, who completed the gruelling event in 4 hours, 55 minutes, and 15 seconds, leaving Narraway seven minutes and fifty-three seconds behind the winner.
Competing in such a demanding race with a significant amount of climbing in Spain's competitive cycling scene is a testament to Narraway's continued development and determination. A top 50 finish in this calibre of event represents a solid achievement for the Bermudian rider.
Meanwhile, the excitement of Bermuda Day begins on two wheels this Friday, May 23rd, with the return of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race (SPMR)—Bermuda’s premier road cycling event and a highlight of the island’s national holiday celebrations.
The race kicks off at 8:20 AM sharp, with top male and female riders launching from St. George’s, while youth competitors in the SPMR Youth Classic start just east of the Arboretum. All riders will race west through Bermuda’s eastern corridor, converging at the high-energy finish on Cedar Avenue, near Mount Saint Agnes Academy. The first finisher is expected around 8:48 AM, with the prize presentation to follow at approximately 9:00 AM.
“We invite the public to come out early, claim your spot along the route, and cheer on Bermuda’s cyclists as they fly past,” said Debbie Titterton Narraway, Event Director. “It’s the perfect way to start Bermuda Day—filled with speed, excitement, and community spirit.”
Road Closures & Public Notice
All roads along the race course will close at 7:30 AM. Spectators and residents are urged to be in position before this time to avoid delays. The SPMR will conclude ahead of the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby, making it the perfect opening act for a full day of celebration.

The SPMR features men’s, women’s, and junior categories, as well as a Youth Classic for riders aged 14 and under. The race honours the legacy of the late Sinclair Packwood, an elite Bermudian cyclist, and has been a treasured part of Bermuda Day festivities since 1987.
