Big Scores Highlight Netball Summer League Opener

The Bermuda Netball Summer League season got off to a flying start at Bernard’s Park last night, with a thrilling triple header that saw a total of 130 goals thunder down the court. The opening night provided a captivating glimpse of the competitive action to come in both the Women’s and Co-Ed Divisions.

The opening match of the evening saw the Devonshire Cougars emerge victorious over PHC with a score of 23-11. Cougars attacker Miesha Greaves led her team's offensive charge, netting an impressive 15 goals. She was well-supported by Charlene Gomez, who added 5 goals, and Kristin Holman, who scored 3 times. Gina Benjamin was recognized as the Devonshire Cougars' Best Defender, while Demiqua Daniels was named the match MVP. For PHC, Naomi Crofton led their scoring with 6 goals, Keyahnae Burgess added 3, and Debre Evans scored twice. Evans was named PHC's Best Defender and shared the MVP honors with her teammate Melissa Burrows, who was also recognized as the team's Best Attacker.

The second game of the night saw a closer encounter, with the Lady Stars edging out K-Net Assets by a narrow 25-22 scoreline. Julessa Robinson spearheaded the Lady Stars' attack, scoring 15 goals, with Nahjae Rayner contributing a further 10. Zindzi Swan was named the Lady Stars' Best Defender and also took home the MVP award, while Marissa Brangman was recognized as the team's Best Attacker. Despite a valiant effort from K-Net Assets, Jahkenya Trott's impressive 20 goals weren't enough. K-Net's Best Attacker was Denise Truter, who added 2 goals, while Katelyn Thompson was named their MVP, and Jamila Godwin was recognized as their Best Defender.

The final match of the night saw a dominant performance from St. George’s, who swept past Law & Disorder with a commanding 48-1 victory. Nisaiah Berkeley led the St. George’s scoring with 15 goals, followed by Hailey Smith with 11, Shawnae Brangman with 6, and both Cherie Manders and Dezirae Darrell with 5 goals each. Kse Jennings, who also scored four times, was named the St. George’s MVP, while Stacy-Ann Brown added two goals. Dylan Outerbridge was recognized as St. George’s Best Attacker, and Riley Jones was named their Best Defender. For Law & Disorder, Hannah Tildesley scored their solitary goal and was named their MVP. Sarai Paul was recognized as the team's Best Attacker, and Amy Hewitt was named their Best Defender.

The opening night of the Bermuda Netball Summer League has set the stage for an exciting season, with high-scoring matches and standout individual performances across the Women’s Division. Netball fans will be eagerly anticipating the upcoming rounds of action at Bernard’s Park.
