Steven Smith & Skye Ferguson emerged as the overall winners at the Bermuda Bicycle Association's Individual Time Trial, a testing event hosted by the Bermuda Junior Cycling programme. Cyclists tackled a demanding 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) course against the clock, showcasing their solo racing prowess.
The time trial route presented a significant challenge, beginning at the Harrington Sound public dock and taking riders east along Harrington Sound Road before continuing onto Wilkinson Avenue. The course then looped at the roundabout near the iconic Swizzle Inn, leading competitors left onto North Shore Road, followed by another left turn at Flatt's. The final stretch saw riders return via Harrington Sound Road to the Start/Finish line.
This individual test demanded not only raw power but also astute pacing and climbing ability, and Bermuda's cyclists rose admirably to the occasion.
Steven Smith proved to be the fastest rider on the day, clinching victory in the A Division with an impressive time of 17 minutes and 49 seconds. His time was the quickest overall, highlighting his strength and tactical approach to the solo effort.
Wayne Scott demonstrated his capabilities in the B Division, finishing fifth overall with a time of 18 minutes and 45 seconds to take the divisional honors. Gianluca Bortoli secured the win in the C Division, finishing just behind Scott in sixth place overall with a time of 19 minutes and 11 seconds.
In the Women's category, Skye Ferguson showcased her endurance and speed, finishing 27th overall with a time of 22 minutes and 34 seconds to claim the top spot.
The junior cyclists also impressed, with Ethan Smith winning the fiercely contested 13 & 14 Age Group Division, finishing 26th overall in 22 minutes and 25 seconds. Colette Durkin demonstrated her talent in the younger age group, winning the 11 & 12 Age Group Division and finishing 29th overall with a time of 23 minutes and 10 seconds.
The Bermuda Bicycle Association's Individual Time Trial, supported by the Junior Cycling programme, provided a valuable opportunity for riders of all ages and abilities to test themselves in a demanding solo format. The victories of Steven Smith and Skye Ferguson, alongside the impressive performances of the junior winners, underscore the depth of cycling talent on the island.
