Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the team has named David Bascome as the Blast's new Assistant Coach. Bascome, a 15-year veteran of professional indoor soccer, replaces Tarik Walker who acted as the team's assistant coach last season.
Bascome joined the Blast prior to the 2003-04 championship season and will continue to play for the team while serving as head coach Danny Kelly's assistant this season. A two-time MISL champion and five-time League All-Star, Bascome ranks 12th all-time in the MISL with 1,022 points after having recorded the 1,000th point of his career last season. Prior to joining the Blast organization, Bascome played for the Harrisburg Heat for 11 seasons and one season for the Denver Thunder. Following the 2000-01 season, he was the runner up for the NPSL MVP. A native of Bermuda, Bascome is the Commissioner the Island Soccer League (ISL), Bermuda's first pro soccer league, which will kick off next summer.
"David is Danny Kelly's first choice to serve as his assistant coach," Healey said. "I think David is a great choice since he is very knowledgeable about the game and communicates well with the players as well as with team management. David has represented the Blast well in his three years in Baltimore."
Walker, a 12-year veteran of professional indoor soccer, will continue in his position as a Mortgage Consultant at 1st Mariner Bank.
"I am happy to be appointed to this position," Bascome said. "After having played the game for many years, it will be a pleasure to share my experiences and knowledge of the game."
