Three of Bermuda’s best swimmers will compete in the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai over an 8 day Championships that has gathered the best swimmers from around the globe.

This meet will be the showcase for swimming as everyone begins preparation for the London games.

Most elite level swimmers have been competing throughout this season with their focus on being at their best for this meet. This is the opportunity to shave and taper and match themselves against the very best.

Bermuda’s Kiera Aitken, Roy-Allan Burch and Julian Fletcher have been a part of this process and are looking forward to the test. The Trio along with coach ben Smith and Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association President Tim Petty arrived on the 15th of July to make sure that the athletes were accustomed to the time change, food changes and were physically prepared after the long travel.

Smith said, “They have looked very strong in the practices and are focused on swimming best performances.”

Fletcher, after having a strong season at SMU has been focused on being ready to race at his best here in Shanghai. He will be competing in the 100 Breaststroke on Day 1 of the competition on July 24th and in the 50 Breaststroke on Day 3 July 26th.

Burch will be competing in the 100 Freestyle on July 27th and the 50 Freestyle on July 29th. This season while training in Charlotte Burch has progressed steadily as he prepared for this meet. The 3 Grand Prix finals for the season have given him valuable experience leading into his first rested meet of the season.

Aitken continues to be our strongest and most experienced swimmer at this level. Earlier this year she made the qualifying time for next year’s Olympics only to have the qualifying time lowered. She is ready to swim fast and looking forward to the meet. She will be competing in the 100 Backstroke on July 25th, 50 Backstroke July 27th, 100 Freestyle on July 28th and 50 Freestyle on July 30th.
