Capital City Football Club of Ottawa unveiled their roster for the 2011 Canadian Soccer League (CSL) season tonight at the Clocktower Brew Pub. The 25-man roster features a mixture of local and international talent, including players from Brazil, Ivory Coast, Argentina, Ghana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Bosnia, Bermuda, France, the United States, and Canada. The roster announcement comes just in time for Capital City FC’s inaugural match against Toronto Croatia on May 20th at Terry Fox Athletic Facility.

Taurean Manders is now a Professional Footballer, Manders signed a One year Contract with Capital City FC.

In order for this team to succeed, coaches and players say it will be about working as a team over working as individuals. Collin Harrison, Capital City FC defender/midfielder, says every player will have to fight for each other. “Everybody has a different style and different background. We have guys from all over - California, North Carolina, Brazil, Ottawa – so it’s getting everyone’s strengths to work on the same page,” he says.

Capital City Head Coach and Technical Director, Shaun Harris, says team unity is the only way forward. “It’s about togetherness. Winning at a professional level is always about working as one. Whether it’s the players, the coaches or the staff, we all have to be on the same page,” he says.

Other players like Kenny Caceros say it’s been a challenge getting to know his teammates but it has been fun and he is eager to start the season. “We have to get to know each other, we need to learn from any mistakes we may make, so it definitely makes things a challenge but it’s been fun; it keeps things interesting.”

Caceros adds that, “Team chemistry is huge, it’s a major part of soccer. Just knowing the guys tendencies, you need to know what your teammates are going to do so you can be in position before they do it.”

Capital City FC of Ottawa will play 26 games, including 13 home games, in their first season in the CSL.
