Kevon Fubler - Willow Cuts IslandStats.com Under 19 Squad Announced
A day after the defending champions Canada announced their team that will look to defend their Under 19 America's Championship that they won in 2009 in Toronto, the Bermuda Cricket Board released the names of the players that will represent Bermuda in the Pepsi ICC Americas Region U19 Division 1, to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, February 6 - 13, 2011. The team will be narrowed down to fourteen with three standby players on Friday 21 January. The tournament is a round robin format made up of teams from Argentina, Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, USA and Cayman Islands. The top two teams in this tournament will qualify to compete in the ICC U19 World Cup Global Qualifier scheduled to take place in Ireland in July against eight other teams, four regions of which six will qualify for the 2012 ICC U19 World Cup.

All the players in the squad have worked very hard and have shown their commitment to training, improvement and representing Bermuda. The selected squad augurs well for the future of elite cricket in Bermuda with a good mix of experience and enthusiasm. There are already a number of athletes that have played National team cricket, including Gilbert, Burgess, Fubler, Bell and Leverock. Their experience, mixed with the up and coming younger players, will be very important if this team is to be successful in the Americas qualifiers and beyond to the World Group Qualifiers. As we are in a strong region I expect that most teams in this tournament will be very close in natural ability, but as with most under age tournaments, it will be those teams and players that work hard and make the correct decisions at important times that will get through to the next stage."
ICC Level I Coaching Course
The BCB also announced that they received the results from the ICC Level I coaching course that was run in November 2010 by ICC Regional Development Officer, Wendell Coppin. The BCB congratulate Staphen Dill, Cinda Bobb, Jordan De Silva, Freston Hurdle, Caleb John Pierre, Ian Armstrong, Oladapo Frederick, Christopher Kawaley, Lorin Tannock, Carlos Warner, Reynold Trevor Smith, Joshua Ball, William Euler, George Cannonier, Lionel Cann and Stephen Outerbridge for passing the course. Reginald Pearman, BCB President said, "On behalf of the Board I would like to congratulate the newly qualified coaches on their achievement. I am pleased to see a number of national team players in this list and I look forward to seeing them coaching in our junior leagues and programmes. A large part of the BCB’s development plan is to increase the number of qualified coaches and to increase coaching standards across the island. It is in this regard that I would like to thank Wendell Coppin and the ICC Americas Regional office who provide these valuable courses. We hope they will be able to visit regularly to increase the educational opportunities for all our members.
