Changes to Women's Football

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Football Association is about to embark on a new chapter in Women's football for the 2010/11 season.

The BFA have also released the schedule for:

• Charity Cup
• Dudley Eve
• Premier & First Division League (Sunday, October 3rd)
See Schedule attached below

During the off season, the Bermuda Football Association Technical Department provided a SWOT analysis, identifying strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats to the women’s game. From these findings, a meeting was held to discuss these matters with the Clubs. From that meeting, clubs were asked to go away and consider the findings before being invited back for a second meeting that would give opportunities for staying as is or moving forward in a different direction. The second meeting held in July was very informative and it was fully supported by all participating clubs to move forward with a “Draft” system for a one year “pilot scheme”

Secondly, it was fully supported that the current women’s football providers would be the driving force behind this change of format by working with both the Bermuda Football Associations Competitions Committee and Technical Department, to develop the supporting structure for growth, development and consistency!

Therefore, for the first time ever, our Women's division will have six (6) Coaches who have been selected based on their previous involvement in the Women's game. The way forward is to present overall improvements for the women’s game by having the Coaches spearheading a Women's draft at the end of September. All female players of 15years and older, will register directly with the BFA; sign a player’s agreement adhering to all set out rules put forward by the 2 BFA committees and the coaches for the 2010/11 season.

All six coaches selected, along with their chosen assistants, will participate in a C License Level Course prepared for this targeted group throughout the year, which will be the forum for monitoring and improving this pilot scheme to achieve the goals stated above.

Why a Women's draft? The BFA, Clubs, coaches, and players thought it would be best to serve the game more competitively, than the current system. This will allow more players to shine, enhance our game for players, coaches and for our young players coming into football.

From the month of October through the month of April, the women’s games will be coached, and played at the BFA field. Coaching will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the BFA field, while games will be played Saturday evenings at the same venue. It is everyone’s beliefs, that this avenue will give our women’s football system, a new start, bring more players out to participate and give younger female players in Bermuda something to strive for.

As the rules and regulations are formalized, we will keep everyone up to speed via the BFA website www.bermudafa.com

Open sessions will begin on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th of September 2010 where players are free to come and experience sessions from all 6 coaches and registration forms and player agreement forms will be available.

Coaches who have committed to Women’s Football: Naquita Robinson, Aaron Dinkins, Jeremy Salaam, Paulos, Sherwin Jennings, Derek “Rocky” Bean, Clay Smith, Kentoine Jennings and Malcolm Hewey.
