The members of the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre are ready for their upcoming tour of Canada where they will play in the Cricket Canada Summer Festival.
The 14 players departed from Barbados and will be in Canada for a week where they will play a tri-nation series against two of the leading ICC Associate Members the host nation and Bermuda who they face off against tomorrow.
Captain Shamarh Brooks said the team was fully prepared for the trip and the aim is to showcase what they have been working on during the last three months.
The players have been at the Sagicor West Indies HPC which is based at the 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies under Head Coach Toby Radford.
Brooks said: “It was an intense three months and we worked really, really hard but the players did really well and we enjoyed it. It was the first time some of the players were exposed to such level of coaching and we put in a lot of work in those three months. It was a disciplined and a different approach to what we are accustomed to and it was wonderful to see the players working hard and the change of mindset was for the better."
On the tour he added: “For us we would like to win (the Tournament), but it is not a case of winning and losing. What we are looking to see is where we are at as players. We will be looking to implement what we have gathered in the three months, the new approaches, the new techniques and looking to maximize this opportunity and get better at what we do.”
All matches will be played at the Malton Sports and Cricket Club in Mississauga, Ontario. The has been one change to the Sagicor West Indies HPC squad with off-spinning allrounder Ashley Nurse replacing left-hander Devon Smith, who was withdrawn from the squad.
