The Bahamas captured the ICC Americas Division 2 title despite losing a thrilling match to Suriname by three wickets and will look to book their tickets to Bermuda to play in the ICC Division 1 tournament later this year.
Suriname won the toss and elected to field in a match reduced to 35 overs due to wet grounds. Bahamas had a very nervous start, maybe with the result of the last Division 2 event still in their memory, when they crumbled to 19 for 4 after eight overs.
A 71-run fifth wicket stand between Ryan Tappin (63), and Jon Barry (33), got the home side back on track finishing with 186/9 in their 35 overs. Suriname lost an early wicket starting their chase but very steady contributions right down their batting roster saw the visitors hit their target with nine balls to spare.
This is the second tournament that Suriname has defeated the Bahamas in the final game of the tournament, this time however Bahamas had a net run rate that secured the tournament title for them and promotion to Division 1.
