The Seiko 49er World Championship Regatta got underway on the waters of Grand Bahamas Sailing Club. The results have been posted but we're waiting to hear the results of pending protests and redress before fleet assignments for tomorrow.
Following the comments made yesterday that saw other media quickly find the youth results so that they can post and or report them so that they can report on the 49er World Championships, will not go un-noticed by you the viewers.
On Day 1 of racing that saw three races completed brother Jesse and Zander Kirkland finished the day in 49th place.
The brother finished 17th in the days first race, before falling to 29th in race two and then they finished 30th in race three for a total of 76 points.
Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen from Australia lead the standings with five points, while Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes from Great Britian are second with seven points and John Pink and Rick Peacock also from Great Britian are third with ten points.
Zander Kirkland said, “We are looking forward to see how we manage the fleet and our boat! Zack Maxam, our coach has been instrumental in getting us up to speed in terms of rigging and has given us great advice for getting around in the boat. We are stoked to have Zack and look forward to working with him in the future as well”.
“I will be trying to understand slight differences in the tactics involved with the 49er. I will also have to adjust my perception of crosses and fleet judging as the angles in these boats is significantly different to any previous boats I have sailed”, concluded Jesse Kirkland.
