The Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association (BODA) wrapped up its fall series of racing sponsored by Aspen Re with a dinner and prize-giving at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.
The advanced fleet completed 43 races and the overall winner was Sam Stan, with Owen Siese in second place and Makai Joell finished in third. The top female was Ellie Wollmann, who finished fifth overall. The intermediate fleet completed 25 races with first place going to Christian Chin Gurret, followed by Kenneth Young in second and Chase Cooper in third.
The sailors' coaches, Paul Doughty of RBYC and Pablo Sanguinetti of RHADC, selected the most improved sailors in each fleet, the pair named Ferdinand Arnold in the advanced fleet, with special recognition to Jacob Greene and Ceci Wollmann. Nicolas Siese was most improved sailor in the intermediate fleet, with special recognition to Chase Cooper and Gurret. The coaches also chose a recipient for the Sportsmanship Award, for the sailor exhibiting the highest levels of sportsmanship and seamanship that went to Siese.
BODA also took the opportunity to formally introduce the team that will compete in the 2010 South American Optimist Championships in Punta del Este, Uruguay, March 25th to April 4th. That team is Ferdinand Arnold, Rory Caslin, Sam Stan, Ceci Wollmann, Ellie Wollmann and Mikey Wollmann, Pablo Sanguinetti will accompany the team and coach them at the event.
