Due to winds reaching more than 35 knots only one race was completed on Day 1 of the 2009 PricewaterhouseCoopers Bermuda Optimist Open and National Championships.
Due to the strong winds several boats capsized and some others pulled out Owen Siese won the only race the day and leads the Fleet, Madison Gates from the USA is second and Adele Whitmeyer also from the USA is third.
USA sailors Carter Pemberton, Reinier Enkema Van Dijk and Roger Dorr are 4th, 5th and 6th, Sam Stan is the next Bermuda sailor he holds the 7th place spot, with Florian Enkema Van Dijk from the USA is in 8th, Antonio Bailey from Bermuda as well as Michael Barit round out the top 10.
