Ottawa Senators 4 Calgary Flames 2
The Ottawa Senators won the opener defeating the Calgary Flames 4 – 2. Cameron Poland led the Ottawa Senators with 2 goals, while Cory Caouette and Ian Jennings added a goal each, while the Calgary Flames got single strikes from Robbie Bailey and Chris Grantier.
Edmonton Oilers 7 Vancouver Canucks 6
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 7 – 6 with a shootout goal off the stick of Jon Talbot.
In regulation time the teams ended the game level at 6 – 6, Talbot scored a hattrick for the Edmonton Oilers, while Chad Cundliffe added two goals and Ryan Love added the other. The Vancouver Canucks got two goals apiece off the sticks of Dustin Luck and Graham Gunter, while Ian Beaudoin and Nathan Kowalski added a goal each.
