Jessica Lewis Reflects on 2020 Season

IslandStats.com
Jessica Lewis via social media has posted her usual end of season post, “Looking back this year is certainly not like all my others in the past. The 2020 season has been a tough one but also successful in its own ways.

Competing in no competitions has made finding the motivation to train difficult but it’s also shown me how to find motivation in different ways. I, along with so many other athletes, had to set entirely new goals for the year after the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games. My main focus was on the joy of training for the sake of training and seeing myself get stronger.

But I’m looking forward to taking a break for a few weeks now to recharge and refocus so I can come back to build on the strengths of this past season.

Thank you to Coach Curtis for being an amazing support as we had to navigate new goals and coaching me from afar. Thank you to Coach Lisa for your ongoing incredible encouragement. Thank you to my teammates Austin, Isaiah, and Nan for helping to fuel my motivations and for all the zoom workouts so we could stay connected while I’m in Bermuda.

Thank you to the Bermuda Paralympic Association for all the behind the scenes things you are doing with the postponement of Tokyo 2020.

Thank you to my sponsors RenaissanceRe for your support through this tough season.

Thank you to my weight trainer Victor in Canada who I started the year with and Sergio here in Bermuda who has taken me on.

Thank you to the Government of Bermuda for choosing me as Bermuda’s 2019 Senior Female Athlete of the year. That honor helped me more than I could ever explain.

Thank you to the IOC and IPC for all that you are doing to keep the spirit of the games alive while keeping us all safe.

Thank you to Earl Basden for your continued belief in me and all the great interviews.

Thank you to Craig, James, and Amy from the National Stadium for everything you did to help me get back to training on the track.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Rolling for WindReach event and WindReach who always has my back.

Lastly thank you to my family for helping me continue on this fight for Tokyo. The opportunity to have this much time with you all has been phenomenal.”
