Bermuda’s Emma Harvey continued her record-breaking spree in the pool, lowering two national marks in a single session on day two of the 2026 Short Course World Championship Trials in Westmont, Illinois.
Building on her record-breaking display on the opening day of competition, the 25-year-old Olympian delivered another masterclass in short-course racing to rewrite Bermuda's history books twice more at the FMC Natatorium.
Harvey first took to the water in the women's 100m backstroke, producing a blistering swim to place seventh overall in 58.01 seconds. In doing so, she emphatically wiped away a long-standing national record that had stood for nearly 17 years, eclipsing Olympian Kiera Aitken’s previous benchmark of 59.31 seconds established in Castellon, Spain, on 26 November 2009.
Harvey returned to the blocks shortly after in the women's 50m butterfly, stopping the clock in 26.25 seconds to secure 11th position overall. The performance comfortably took eight-tenths of a second off the previous Bermuda standard of 27.07 seconds, set only a week earlier in Canada by Elan Daley.
The twin record-breaking performances mark three national records in just two days for Harvey, cementing an exceptional run of form as she contests the global trials in Illinois.
