Bermuda's Emma Harvey delivered a record-shattering performance in the pool, lowering a long-standing national mark at the 2026 Short Course World Championship Trials in Westmont, Illinois.
Competing at the FMC Natatorium, Harvey touched the wall in 27.02 seconds to take eighth place in the Women’s 50m Backstroke final.
The blistering effort took seven-tenths of a second off Bermuda’s short course meters record of 27.72, which had stood for nearly 17 years since two-time Olympian Kiera Aitken set the benchmark in Castellón, Spain, back on 28 November 2009.
Harvey was back on the blocks shortly after to contest a competitive Women's 50m Freestyle field, clocking 25.33 seconds to finish 14th overall.
The 25-year-old’s statement swim continues a prolific spell on the international circuit, highlighting her sharp short-course speed as competition continues through the weekend in Illinois.
