Top Seeds Advance in ITF Bermuda M15 as Weather Disrupts

IslandStats.com
Top seed Blaise Bicknell and second seed Keshav Chopra safely booked their quarter-final spots on Thursday as tournament organisers battled persistent rain delays to complete all but one of the second-round ties at the ITF M15 Bermuda.

Inclement weather once again played havoc with the schedule at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium in Pembroke, forcing intermittent stoppages and testing player endurance. However, ground staff capitalised on dry windows to push through seven of the eight scheduled singles matches.

Jamaican top seed Bicknell was made to work hard in the opening stages against American challenger Matisse Farzam. Bicknell navigated a competitive first-set tie-break before seizing control in the second to record a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 victory.

Second seed Chopra enjoyed a far smoother afternoon. The American produced a dominant display of aggressive baseline tennis to overpower qualifier and compatriot Kian Vakili 6-0, 6-1 in under an hour.

Third-seeded American Matt Kuhar also maintained his rich vein of form, bringing an end to Carel Ngounoue's run with a measured 6-2, 6-4 win.

There was disappointment for Caribbean veteran Darian King. The Barbadian, who had looked formidable in the opening round, was halted in straight sets by Poland’s sixth seed Kacper Szymkowiak. Szymkowiak broke early in both sets to seal a composed 6-3, 6-4 triumph.

France’s Paul Colin, seeded eighth, moved into the last eight with minimum fuss, dispatching American Nathan Cox 6-4, 6-1.

Fifth seed Noah Schachter secured passage after fending off qualifier Tyler Mercier 6-3, 7-6, while seventh-seeded American Jacob Brumm survived a spirited second-set fightback from Guatemala’s Juan Sebastian Collado to prevail 6-0, 7-6.

Organisers will look to clear the sole remaining second-round fixture on Friday morning before proceeding with the quarter-finals.
