Bermudian swimmer Elan Daley produced a sensational, record-shattering weekend in Canada, claiming a clean sweep of victories and lowering two Bermuda national short-course records at the 2026 Downtown Sprint Meet.
Competing at the University of Toronto, the standout swimmer proved untouchable across the sprint disciplines, capturing four gold medals and hitting the qualification standards for the World Short Course Championships in both the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
Daley made headlines in the butterfly events, taking down national marks previously held by Olympian Emma Harvey.
In the Girls 14 & Over 50m Butterfly, Daley surged home in 27.07 seconds to shave over three-tenths off Harvey’s nine-year-old Bermuda record of 27.39, set at the Scottish National Short Course Championships in December 2017.
She followed that up with another clinical display in the 100m Butterfly, touching the wall in 59.38 seconds. The effort eclipsed Harvey’s previous national standard of 59.45, established at the BASA Winter Meet in November 2023, while comfortably securing a World Championship qualifying time.
The Bermudian was equally ruthless in the freestyle events. Daley stormed to victory in the 100m Freestyle in 54.88 seconds to clock another World Short Course qualifying mark, before completing an imperious four-gold haul by dominating the 50m Freestyle in a blistering 25.33 seconds.
The remarkable four-event sweep caps a milestone early-season outing for Daley, underlining her fine form on the North American circuit as she turns her sights toward the international stage.
