Adverse weather has brought an abrupt halt to the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association (BMRA) campaign, confirming Carter Burgess, Len Macedo, Cheng-Hsien Ning, and Bruce De Grilla Jr as 2026 class champions.
Inclement conditions forced the cancellation of the planned season finale at the Bermuda Motorsports Park on Sunday, 25 October. Consequently, the previous weekend's racing on 18 October stands as the decisive round of the championship year.
The premature conclusion locked in a dramatic title race across several divisions, headlined by standout showings from emerging young riders.
In the MIR Moto GP 110cc Expert class, Carter Burgess sealed the championship crown on 460 points, finishing 125 clear of season-long rival Jesston Thomas.
The pair renewed their fierce rivalry during the 18 October meeting, taking turns atop the podium. Burgess took the chequered flag in race one before Thomas struck back in race two—snapping Burgess’s remarkable 11-race winning streak. Burgess answered immediately in race three to close out the year on a high note, with Dezi Degrilla-Tucker completing the championship podium in third.
Nine-year-old Burgess also pushed the Scooters/Street Bike title down to the wire. Entering the penultimate weekend trailing leader Cheng-Hsien Ning by 76 points, Burgess claimed three consecutive second-place finishes behind an untouchable Jesston Thomas, who swept all three heats.
The resulting haul slashed Ning’s cushion to just 16 points. However, with Sunday's washout eliminating any chance of a final-day decider, Ning held on to lift the championship on 331 points ahead of Burgess and Thomas.
In the MIR Moto GP 110cc Novice division, Len Macedo produced a clinical display to cap his championship triumph, sweeping all three races on 18 October to finish on 223 points clear of Pharaoh Crockwell and Aydin Hollis.
Meanwhile, Bruce De Grilla Jr walked away with the Open Class championship, racking up 336 points over the campaign to finish ahead of Kannen Morris-Dickinson and Romano Ramirez. Ning notably stepped up into the Open class during the 18 October meeting, showcasing his versatility by claiming a clean sweep of all three races.
Reflecting on the campaign, BMRA president David Jones praised the competitors and underlined the burgeoning standard of Bermuda's junior talent.
“It has been another successful season for the BMRA, and I want to thank every rider, family and volunteer who made it possible," Jones said. "Our riders showed once again just how tough and competitive they are, and many of them have really come of age on the track this year.
"I am especially proud of our youth programme. Our young riders have been the story of the season, racing with skill, courage and sportsmanship well beyond their years, and taking on, and beating, riders on much bigger machines.
"The hard work they put in at the track every week shows, and the future of motorcycle racing in Bermuda is in very good hands.”
