Mechanical Heartache Strikes Cumbermack

IslandStats.com
Championship leader Marley Mackenzie remained the class of the field in the National Junior Sportbike Championship, taking his second victory of the weekend to consolidate his command at the top of the standings.

Mackenzie’s dominant double-header sweep delivered a masterclass in pace and racecraft, extending his points lead at a crucial juncture in the season.

However, there was early heartbreak for Bermudian rider Jediah Cumbermack, whose afternoon came to a premature halt following a frustrating mechanical retirement.

Cumbermack entered the weekend looking to build momentum after securing a starting grid spot inside the top seven for Sunday’s contest.

However, his race was compromised almost immediately. The 19-year-old was able to complete just four laps before technical issues forced him into the pits, recording a Did Not Finish (DNF).

The early stoppage was a sharp disappointment for the Rokit Rookies rider, who was eager to carve through the order and secure a strong haul of championship points following a tough battle in Saturday's opening heat.

At the head of the field, Mackenzie controlled the race with clinical precision. After fending off early pressure, the series leader settled into a relentless rhythm, managing his gap at the front to seal back-to-back victories over the weekend.

The result strengthens Mackenzie's grip on the overall standings as the championship heads toward its next round.
