Lee Terceira's impressive run of form in Florida continued as the Bermudian reached the final of the Blue & Green SWFL Classic in Fort Myers, a USTA Level 6 tournament, before adverse weather brought the championship match to an untimely end.
Seeded second for the tournament, Terceira received a first-round bye before producing a series of commanding performances.
She dropped just one game en route to the final, dismantling Dani Betlee 6-0, 6-0 in the quarter-finals before cruising through her semi-final with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Terceira's performances reflected the progress she has made during a three-week training block in Florida, where she has also spent time training alongside Bermuda's Davis Cup squad. The intensive preparation has translated into confident and consistent tennis on court.
The final pitted Terceira against 12-year-old British player Anna Korynska, who, like the Bermudian, had travelled to Florida for an extended stay at a tennis academy in Naples.
The pair produced a high-quality contest before the weather intervened. After repeated lightning delays and heavy rain had already pushed back the day's schedule, worsening conditions eventually forced officials to abandon the match.
Terceira had taken control by winning the opening set 6-4, but trailed 2-1 in the second when play was halted. With Korynska and her family due to leave Fort Myers the following day, the final could not be rescheduled, leaving the tournament without a completed championship match.
Despite the anticlimactic ending, Terceira's latest deep run continues an excellent spell in Florida. Strong results across her last three tournaments have significantly boosted her USTA ranking, earning her entry into higher-level Level 5 events as she continues her development.
