Aeziah Divine hailed a "good step forward" after securing his first top-10 qualifying spot before fighting back to finish 11th in a chaotic opening race at Brands Hatch.
Competing in Round 4 of the R&G Moto4 British Cup, Divine made significant progress during Sunday morning's qualifying session on the legendary Kent circuit.
The youngster slashed a massive 1.8 seconds off his previous day's practice times to stop the clock at 1:36.248, earning him 10th place on the grid.
A tough start to Race 1 saw Divine lose ground as the lights went out, but he recovered well to haul himself back into the main chasing pack. Despite just missing out on a top-10 finish at the checkered flag, he took a solid 11th place.
"I dropped 1.8 seconds from yesterday and took my first top 10 on the grid," Divine said. "After losing a few places off the start line for Race 1, I fought to climb back and got into the chasing group.
"I just missed out on being in the top 10 across the line but I'm happy to take 11th place. It was a good step forward today. Now to keep going like this into tomorrow’s Race 2."
Divine will be looking to carry that momentum into Monday's second race of the weekend, which is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 pm.
