King's College, crush Gloucestershire Young Cricketers

IslandStats.com
A magnificent century from Rishabh Shimpi and a clinical bowling performance spearheaded by Jago Barclay guided King's College, Taunton to a commanding 110-run victory over Gloucestershire Young Cricketers.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, King's College set an imposing target before their bowling unit, featuring a strong contribution from Bermudian all-rounder Luke Horan, dismantled the Gloucestershire response.

The foundations of the emphatic victory were laid entirely in the first innings. Shimpi played an absolute masterclass of an innings, anchoring the crease to smash a brilliant 156 runs, single-handedly turning the momentum in Taunton's favor.

Horan provided support in the middle order with a patient 18 to help rebuild after early wickets, as King's College were eventually bowled out for a formidable 320.

Gloucestershire's Stanley Norton fought valiantly to restrict the damage, turning in a superb spell of seam bowling to finish as the pick of the attack with figures of 3-45 from his eight overs.

Faced with a daunting chase of 321, Gloucestershire Young Cricketers never truly looked comfortable as Taunton's opening bowlers immediately applied the squeeze.

Rhys Pollitt offered the lone resistance for the young county side, compiling a gritty top-scoring knock of 47, but a steady cluster of wickets completely broke the back of the chase.

Barclay was the standout destroyer with the ball, tearing through the middle and lower order with a lethal spell to finish with exceptional figures of 4-21 from just 3.4 overs.

Horan proved equally effective at the other end, maintaining immense discipline to keep the run rate under control while extracting vital breakthroughs, returning a highly economical 2-22 from his six overs.
