Pembroke Panthers are the 2026 Bermuda Smash Champions

IslandStats.com
Pembroke Panthers 217/2 Sandys Spartans 159/7

A majestic, masterclass century from Namibian international Gerhard Erasmus propelled the Pembroke Panthers to a resounding 58-run victory over the Sandys Spartans, capturing the prestigious 2026 Bermuda Smash Invitational Title in front of a packed house at the National Sports Centre North Field.

Despite losing the toss and being sent in to bat on a true North Field deck, Pembroke's premier batsmen feasted on the West Enders' bowling unit, posting a monumental total that left the Spartans with an insurmountable mountain to climb.

The afternoon belonged entirely to Erasmus. The marquee associate star played an innings for the ages, smashing a breathtaking 104. His sublime century anchored the entire front half of the contest, combining elegant timing with brute strength to clear the boundary ropes eight times alongside four additional boundaries.

The Spartans simply had no answers for the second-wicket partnership. Skipper Dominic Sabir matched his international teammate's intensity, bludgeoning an unbeaten 79 off just 49 deliveries. Sabir’s calculated assault featured seven boundaries and three massive sixes, providing the perfect foil to push the team score past the double-century mark.

Amidst the carnage, Michael Agard stood out as the lone bright spot for the Spartans' attack, returning highly respectable figures of 1-22 from his disciplined three overs.

Faced with a demanding required run-rate of nearly 11 runs an over, the Spartans’ high-profile top order needed an explosive start.

Overseas professional Chad Bowes did his best to ignite the dream chase, playing a valiant hand of 64 from 41 balls, littered with nine boundaries and a six. When local superstar Delray Rawlins chipped in with a brisk 39, the West End contingent harbored faint hopes of a miraculous comeback.

Turning Point: Just as the Bowes-Rawlins partnership threatened to shift gears, Jermal Proctor produced a magnificent spell of death bowling, executing pinpoint yorkers to stem the flow of boundaries.

Ultimately, Pembroke's bowling depth proved too clinical. Proctor emerged as the chief destroyer, breaking the back of the run chase with stellar figures of 3-28 across his four-over quota.

As the required rate spiraled out of control, the Spartans’ lower order collapsed under pressure, finishing their allotted 20 overs at 159/7—sparking wild celebrations from the Pembroke dugout as they lifted the coveted 2026 Smash crown.
