Rawlins & Allen Take Center Stage after Rain Delays Day Two

IslandStats.com
Rain may have forced a sluggish, delayed start to day two of the Bermuda Smash Invitational, but the action on the pitch quickly reached boiling point at the National Sports Centre North Field.

Once the morning downpours cleared, a revised schedule delivered high-octane drama as the Sandys Spartans pulled off a thrilling chase and the Pembroke Panthers brutally dethroned the defending champions.

Smith Sixers 145/4 Sandys Spartans 150/3

In the opening clash of the day—shortened to a frantic 13 overs per side due to the weather—the Sandys Spartans leaned heavily on the brilliance of Delray Rawlins to chase down a mammoth total.

Batting first, the Smith Sixers looked to have put the game well out of reach. Twin half-centuries from Brett Hampton and Anthony Mosca, who both smashed fluent knocks of 51, anchored the Sixers to a formidable 145/4. Rawlins was the standard-bearer with the ball for the Spartans, keeping his nerve amid the carnage to return tidy figures of 2 for 37 from his 3 overs.

However, Rawlins was far from finished. Shifting into overdrive with the blade, he anchored a sensational reply for Sandys. The star all-rounder blasted a magnificent 81, systematically taking apart the Sixers' attack to steer his side home with three balls to spare. Shaquan Glasgow stood out in defeat for the Sixers, finishing as their pick of the bowlers with 1 for 25.

Pembroke Panthers 130/9 Hamilton Parish Hurricanes 76

If the opening match belonged to a local hero, the second was thoroughly dominated by international pedigree as the Pembroke Panthers cruised to a dominant 54-run victory over holders Hamilton Parish Hurricanes.

The Panthers struggled to find complete fluency in their first innings but scrambled to a competitive 130/9. Dominic Sabir provided the crucial spine to the innings with a hard-fought 41, expertly combatting a brilliant spell from the Hurricanes’ Marcus Bean, who rattled the Panthers with figures of 3 for 34.

The Hurricanes' response never got off the ground, crashing to a catastrophic 76 all out in the face of an extraordinary bowling display from Fabian Allen.

The West Indian international turned the pitch into a minefield, orchestrating a brutal collapse to finish with astonishing, world-class figures of five wickets for just two runs from his four overs, effectively ending the match as a contest.
