Harvey Shows Consistency to Claim Butterfly Bronze in Arizona

IslandStats.com
Olympian Emma Harvey wrapped up a stellar weekend of racing at the prestigious 2026 AZ Sun Devil Open, securing a brilliant bronze medal on the final day of competition.

Having already rewritten the history books with a record-breaking gold in the 50m backstroke earlier in the meet, the versatile speed specialist shifted her focus to the grueling butterfly discipline at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Arizona.

Competing against a heavily stacked field of elite collegiate and international athletes in the Women's 13 & Over 100m Butterfly A-Final, Harvey produced a masterclass in metronomic pacing to touch the wall in a sharp time of 1:01.01 to claim third place overall.

What left spectators and coaches marveling down the stretch was Harvey’s astonishing, mechanical consistency across the entire day's program.

During the early morning preliminary sessions, the Bermudian standout laid down an authoritative marker in her heat. Swimming a beautifully balanced race, she clocked a blistering 1:01.02 to comfortably qualify third fastest for the evening showcase.

When she returned to the blocks under the stadium floodlights for the grand finale, Harvey replicated her morning performance almost to the exact hundredth of a second.

Executing a clean breakout, Harvey tracked the blistering early pace set by race winner and local favorite Lindsay Looney. Turning at the 50-meter wall well within striking distance, the Bermudian utilized a powerful underwater phase to maintain her position on the field.

As the lactic acid began to take its toll in the final ten meters, Harvey dug deep into her reserves, holding off a furious late surge from the chasing pack to touch just 0.01 seconds faster than her morning qualifying effort.

The podium finish caps off an immensely successful desert campaign for Harvey. With a healthy collection of silverware, a new meet record, and elite long-course racing mileage secured, she establishes a perfect physical baseline as she pivots toward the peak international stages of her summer competitive calendar.
