Bermuda international Chare Smith and his Frenchay Cricket Club teammates continued their preparations for the upcoming campaign with a comfortable 52-run victory over Golden Hill CC 2nd XI at the Bob Stone Ground.
In a condensed 25-over format designed to blow off the winter cobwebs, Frenchay won the toss and elected to set a target on what proved to be a productive surface. The home side posted a formidable 169 for 6, largely thanks to a blistering performance from Tyrone Isitt.
Isitt led the charge with a clinical 51, retiring not out after reaching the milestone off just 32 deliveries. His aggressive stroke play set the tone for the innings, while Smith, usually a threat with the ball, was not required to contribute with the bat as the middle order maintained the momentum.
Haseeb Noori was the standout performer for the visitors with the ball. Despite the high scoring rate, Noori maintained excellent discipline to return figures of 3 for 32 from his five overs, ensuring Frenchay were kept within reachable distance.
Golden Hill’s pursuit of 170 never quite gathered the necessary steam, however, as they were restricted to 117 for 6 from their allotted overs. Opener Edward Bourdeaux provided a solid foundation with a well-constructed 49, but he lacked sustained support from the other end as the required run rate climbed.
Don Kulathungage spearheaded the Frenchay bowling attack with a miserly spell, claiming 2 for 17 from his four overs to stifle the visitors’ middle order. Smith, providing a vital engine-room shift, finished with 0 for 21 from his four-over allotment, consistently challenging the batters without finding the breakthrough.
