Barnes & Rebello shine under the lights at Southside Showdown

The Bermuda Karting Association’s much-anticipated Showdown at Sundown delivered a night of high-octane drama as the island’s elite drivers battled for supremacy at the Southside Motor Sports Park.

The evening belonged to Scott Barnes, who showcased his remarkable versatility by securing victories across two distinct divisions. In the Tag Senior final, Barnes was pushed to the absolute limit by Ryan Burgess, eventually crossing the line after fifteen laps with a razor-thin margin of less than half a second. Nathan DeCosta claimed third in that encounter, while Bilal Binns and Jorja Thomas rounded out the top five.

Barnes' dominance continued in the KZ Masters class, where he navigated a sixteen-lap marathon to finish five seconds clear of Stephen Corrado. Rian Lindo managed to edge out William Dunkley in a frantic dash for the final podium spot, with Jason DeCouto following closely in fifth.

The Shifter KZ final provided the most intense duel of the night. Ryan Rebello emerged victorious in a masterclass of defensive driving, fending off a relentless challenge from Ryan Burgess to win by just 0.568 seconds. Barnes capped off a grueling evening by taking third in this category, finishing ahead of Brandon Frank and Chris Ricca.

In the L206 Masters division, David Barbosa demonstrated superior late-race management to secure a hard-fought victory. He remained composed under pressure from Robert Wheatley to win by a two-second margin. The experienced Jason North took third place in a crowded field of nine karts, finishing ahead of Justin Lindo and Zach Linsell.

The younger generation also made their mark under the floodlights. Tanner Correia enjoyed a sensational double-winning performance, first dominating the Cadets class by finishing fifteen seconds ahead of Jacob Garrett, with Mason Sousa and Miguel Cabral following. Correia then stepped up to the Tag Junior category, where he delivered another commanding display to beat Alondro Albouy and Syah Pedro to the top step of the podium.

As the engines cooled at Southside, the results solidified several key positions in the overall championship standings. With the season reaching its business end, the consistency shown by the likes of Barnes and Rebello has set a formidable benchmark for the chasing pack.
