The intense rivalry between Canisius University and Le Moyne College was renewed on Saturday as the Golden Griffins traveled to Syracuse for a highly anticipated dual meet. However, the hosts ensured it was a one-sided affair at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool, with the Le Moyne men delivering a comprehensive 204 to 92 victory.
Bermudian freshman Rhys Insley was among the Canisius contingent looking to make a splash in the Empire State clash. Competing in the Men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke, Insley battled through a competitive field to touch the wall in a time of 1:01.12, earning him a sixth-place finish.
The afternoon’s action concluded with the explosive Men’s 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, where Insley was called upon to swim the third leg for the Canisius University C team. The quartet navigated the sprint event to clock a collective time of 1:32.58, securing fifth place in the final standings.
Despite the heavy defeat for the Buffalo-based program, the meet provided vital competitive experience for Insley as he continues his debut collegiate season in the United States. The Golden Griffins will now look to regroup and find their form as they move closer to the conference championships later this month.
