Saltus Grammar School staged an impressive comeback in a thrilling final to capture the Primary School Six-a-Side Tournament title, defeating Elliot Primary 3–1 in the deciding match.
The final, held after a day of intense competition, got off to a quick start when Taka Benza gave Elliot Primary the early lead. However, Saltus, nicknamed the Knights, responded with a dominant second-half display, netting three unanswered goals to lift the championship trophy.
The comeback began when Declan O’Sullivan equalized early in the second half. Soon after, Freddie Webster put Saltus ahead, before Isaac Metschnabel sealed the victory with a decisive long-range strike.
Saltus’s path to the title included a comprehensive 4–1 victory over Somersfield Academy in the semifinals, with O’Sullivan and Chris Hayne each netting twice. O’Sullivan also shone in the quarterfinal, scoring a remarkable six goals as Saltus defeated Bermuda Institute 6–0.
Elliot Primary’s journey to the final was equally dramatic. In their semifinal, they came from behind to edge Dalton E. Tucker 2–1, thanks to goals from Ako Coddington and Benza. Elliot had earlier eliminated defending champions Warwick Academy 1–0 in the quarterfinals with a decisive strike from Sol Darrell.
Somersfield Academy and Dalton E. Tucker showed their nerve to advance from the quarterfinal stage, both winning their respective matches against St. George’s Preparatory and Mount Saint Agnes Academy via penalty shootouts.
