Bermudian youth international Nayan Grant and his Gillingham Under-18s suffered a high-scoring 5-3 defeat to Oxford United.
The young Gills side could not contain the visitors, who put five past them in the youth league fixture.
Midfielder Nayan Grant, who represents Bermuda at the youth level, could not help to prevent Gillingham from falling in what was a heavily contested match.
The defeat means Gillingham U18s will need to tighten up defensively as they look to climb the Professional Development League table. Grant's continued contributions, however, will be a positive note for the coaching staff despite the loss.
