There were mixed fortunes for Bermudian players across the lower leagues of English football this weekend, with Ayleal Dill enduring a frustrating outing while K’Shaela Burch-Waldron celebrated a stunning cup performance.
In the Adobe Women's FA Cup, forward Burch-Waldron stole the headlines, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to fire Sutton United Women to a 3-0 victory over Brentford FC Women.
Burch-Waldron got straight to business, opening the scoring in just the 4th minute. She then doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a strike of "pure quality" – a goal that marked her fourth in the space of just three days.
The Bermudian completed her devastating hat-trick in the 66th minute, sealing the 3-0 win and ensuring Sutton United Women progressed in the prestigious cup competition. It was a clinical performance that demonstrated her crucial scoring touch.
Dill and his Southwell City FC side had to settle for a single point after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Pinchbeck United Football Club in a United Counties League Division One match at Eslaforde Park.
Southwell were utterly dominant throughout the contest, creating chances that should have sealed a comfortable win, but a combination of misfortune and solid defending kept the scoreline blank.
The visitors missed numerous guilt-edged opportunities, including hitting the post, and saw a crucial penalty saved by the Pinchbeck goalkeeper. Dill and his teammates will be left ruing the missed opportunities, believing they deserved far more than a point from such a commanding display.
Elsewhere, Qur'an Raynor and his Binfield FC teammates saw their journey in the Berks & Bucks FA Cup come to an end after they were defeated 1-0 by Slough Town at Hill Farm Lane.
Despite a valiant effort, Binfield were unable to find a way past the higher-level opposition, bowing out of the cup competition following a narrow loss.
