Bermudian motorcycle racer Aeziah Divine endured a physically demanding day at the Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) round at the Oulton Park, in the UK, battling stormy conditions and recovering from a major qualifying crash to finish both races.
Qualifying Scare and Heroic Efforts
Divine faced immediate adversity when qualifying took place in mixed conditions. Starting on slick tyres, Divine gambled against a mid-session change, which he later regretted. On his final lap, a gust of wind caught his machine, leading to a highside crash on the exit of Druids corner.
"I got caught by a gust of wind and highsided on the exit of Druids taking a big knock to his head and being winded quite badly," Divine stated, thankful his safety gear held up. He praised his crew member: "Thanks so much to @aaron_lilly for working so hard to get me out again after qualifying."
Races Display Resilience
Despite still fighting the after-effects of the crash, Divine was passed fit and pushed on with the weekend’s races:
Race 1: Divine started cautiously but worked through the field, finishing just outside the points in 16th place. The Bermudian focused on closing the gap to the group ahead after a messy Turn One at the start saw riders bunch up. Race 2: Starting from 17th, Divine made good overtakes into the first corner but was quickly shuffled back. He spent the remainder of the race in a tight group fighting for 15th position, ultimately crossing the line in 18th.
"It was a productive but hard day here after taking quite a hit in qualifying which left me sore," Divine said. "Looking forward to seeing what I can do later in the third and final race of the season."
