Defenceman Blake Montgomery and his University of Wisconsin Badgers Men's Hockey teammates started their season with a commanding performance, shutting out the Lindenwood Lions 3-0 at the Centene Community Ice Center.
The 19th/20th-ranked Badgers (1-0-0) victory was anchored by an outstanding collegiate debut from freshman goaltender Daniel Hauser, who delivered a perfect 22-save performance for the shutout.
Wisconsin opened the scoring 9:27 into the first period when senior forward Christian Fitzgerald netted a crucial power-play goal. The lead was extended late in the second period by freshman forward Grady Deering at the 17:12 mark.
Lindenwood (0-1-0) pushed hard to find a goal, registering 22 shots and earning six power-play opportunities, but Hauser and the Badgers' defence—featuring Montgomery—stood firm, denying every chance. Sophomore forward Ryan Botterill sealed the 3-0 win with an empty-net goal at 19:46 into the final period.
The commanding shutout win is an ideal start to the season for the Badgers as they look to build momentum in the early stages of their campaign.
